Why the Instant Pot?? The reason is… it’s super simple to use, will cook DRIED BEANS in approximately 40 minutes, and everything and ANYTHING you can do with a crock pot QUICKLY.. Cooking dried beans on the stove top, oven, or crock pot takes literally HOURS before they’re ready to eat. In the Instant Pot it took a little less than 45 minutes to cook DRIED lentils, DRIED pearled barley, and DRIED black eyed peas all in the same pot. My mind… BLOWN! Instant Pot uses steam, heat, and pressure to cook the food quicker without utilizing chemicals. I didn’t believe that this could cook dried goods so quickly but it did. I tasted my lentils when done and besides needing some more seasoning the lentils were soft and completed to perfection. They weren’t over cooked or undercooked at all.
I dumped everything in the Instant Pot that I normally do with my crockpot, followed the instructions that come with the Instant Pot, and it beeped when it was done and ready to have the steam released. Click here for more information about the Instant Pot.
IMPORTANT NOTE: YOU MUST USE THE LEVER TO SLOWLY RELEASE THE STEAM BEFORE OPENING THE INSTANT POT. This is a PRESSURE COOKER meaning that it utilizes intense pressure and scalding hot steam to cook the food; it you open the container WITHOUT releasing the steam as instructed in the manual you risk causing an explosion, property damage, or personal injury. Be mindful and responsible when using this kitchen appliance. As long as ALL instructions are followed in regards to how to use the Instant Pot you shouldn’t come across any issues or injuries.
